When Rescue 4 (now Rescue 11) experienced
problems with the new 1998 E-0ne Heavy Rescue it was
decided that the unit would be returned to Emergency One
in Florida for modifications. With no spare rescue
units in the fleet a reserve American LaFrance ladder
truck was modified to serve as a temporary heavy rescue.
The aerial ladder was removed and this "lime yellow"
single rear axel contraption acquired the nickname
"Lizard". At times during it's service life "The
Lizard" could be seen with a variety of rescue gear
strapped to the old ladder bed.

The "lizard" was not only used as a spare at (Rescue 4)
but was also used at station 41 as front line equipment
operating as Service Truck 41 (ST41).
I don't remember the personnel calling it the "lizard",
but it was referred to as the "aircraft carrier"
or "helicopter landing pad". It was rumored that
when ST41 was driving around you could hear helicopters
hovering around trying to land!
